Who's Counting?

For all recreation providers: Soon we'll start using the computer system to count program participants who use the program... this should ease the process and help us keep a better eye on the program. Recreation supervisors will be "de-briefing" you about the new process - and we'll have an information sheet available for download in the "support" section of the forum

Coming Soon: Recreation Prescription Displays

Coming soon to a clinic near you... look for our wall mounted prescription displays in the areas where you chart. We've heard from some of you that having a more visible place to access the recreation prescriptions (rather than deep in the pockets of your white coats!) would be a nice reminder of the program for you and your patients. Rather than handing out pads to providers individually, we'll be mounting them on the wall in visible areas. This will also allow your clinic champion to know when to go online and order new pads!

Seasonal Recreation Prescriptions

We will soon be moving to 2 different seasonal recreation prescriptions, one for the Summer, and one for the Fall/Winter/Spring. As many of you have noted, the recreation programming changes dramatically during the "out of school" months and we hope to offer a Summer recreation prescription which reflects this, and continues to provide structured and safe physical activity for all ages.

We expect to release the Summer Rx's in June...

CV PoWeR! and the Chula Vista Budget

With the belt tightening in Chula Vista we are certainly planning for the worst and hoping for the best. While the CV PoWeR! program does not add additional cost to the parks and recreation department, the program certainly depends on hourly staff and facility hours that are poised to be cut deeply. In early December I went to the Chula Vista Council Meeting to present my concerns about the impact of the cuts to seniors and low-income families. I also wrote a brief impact review looking at specific budget items in the hopes of limiting the impact (see below). Unfortunately, the fiscal crisis lead to cuts accross the board including the closure of our local Norman Park Center up to 30 hours per week... I know the parks and rec. folks are working hard to keep these afloat.. Stay tuned for more!
